Travvy Awards competition reflects votes of 30,000 travel agents
HOUSTON – Mar. 11, 2015 – Travel Guard®, the portfolio of travel insurance and global assistance services from AIG Travel (www.aig.com/travel), has won the Travvy Award for Best Travel Insurance Provider. The Travvy Awards, presented by travAlliancemedia, recognize the highest standards of excellence in the travel industry today.
According to James Shillinglaw, Editor-in-Chief, travAlliancemedia, 30,000 travel agents voted in the Travvy Awards competition. “That means our winners were validated by a large percentage of the agency community – those who book great travel for their customers and who truly know the ‘best of the best,’” Shillinglaw said.
“It is an honor for Travel Guard to be recognized by members of the travel agent community, because they have deep insight into travel products, services and companies,” said Jeff Rutledge, CEO, AIG Travel. “The Travvy Award, one of many recent honors for Travel Guard, reflects our commitment to providing the protection, assistance, and assurance that travelers need around the world and around the clock.”
As travel agents know, travelers can experience a travel mishap anytime, anywhere, which is why AIG Travel’s global service centers are located around the globe and operate 24/7/365, with capabilities in more than 40 languages. Flight delays, missed connections and lost luggage happen often, and more serious issues when traveling abroad – such as natural disasters, political unrest, terrorist incidents and medical emergencies – are real concerns for travelers as well.
The AIG Travel medical department operates around the clock to offer medical assistance to Travel Guard customers. The team can be available when customers need to discuss symptoms or medication information while traveling, and they can also provide a wide range of additional services, which, depending on the plan purchased, can include coordination of emergency medical evacuations, assistance with prescription refills, help with medical equipment rentals and replacements, and aid with replacement of eye glasses or corrective lenses.
While medical needs don’t affect every traveler, and the coverage provided by travel insurance plans varies based on a number of factors, travelers may need other specialized services during their journey, such as assistance with wireless devices, the latest ski report for their destination, or recommendations for local activities. Many Travel Guard insurance plans make concierge assistance available to assist travelers with virtually any request.
“In addition to simple requests, such as providing driving directions, we’ve also been asked by our concierge assistance clients to coordinate the details of an overseas wedding proposal, find and wrap one-of-a-kind gifts, and secure tickets to special events,” said Tanya Yenter, team leader of the Travel Guard global service center in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. “You name it, and we can use our resources to locate or coordinate almost any request while customers are traveling.”
